Technical Diving

We define Technical Diving as any diving beyond recreational limits (i.e. a depth of below 40m) or that includes one or all of the following: decompression stops, physical barriers to direct access to the surface (e.g. caves or wreck penetration) or mixed gasses where a third gas is introduced into the breathing gas or where the Oxygen percentage exceeds 40%.

Even though diving is an equipment intensive sport to start with, technical diving introduces new equipment not normally seen in the recreational arena.

The SSI XRTech consists of five courses:

•Advanced Nitrox
This is the first course in your technical training, it teaches you to optimise your use of Nitrox and to dive with EANx mixtures of up to EAN50, however this does not include decompression procedures.
•Technical Foundations
In this course we build on the information learnt in Adv EAN and teach more of the basics of stage decompression.
•Decompression Procedures
This course handles, in depth, the planning and execution of decompression stops, including the use of EAN50 for decompression.
•Normoxic Trimix
During this course you will learn to use mixed gasses with 21% (this makes it normoxic) Oxygen and up to 30% Helium with a depth range of up to 55m.
•Advanced Decompression
This course gives you the knowledge to extend your range of decompression dives. For divers on Air or Nitrox, this means a maximum depth of 54 m and for Normoxic Trimix it means 67m.
